Let’s talk real estate commissions

A hot topic, especially with recent legislation pushing for more transparency.

Real estate commissions are how agents are paid for their time, expertise, and service. Contrary to popular belief, there is no set rate. Each agent or team determines their fee—just like professionals in many other industries.

You may see headlines claiming agents make “too much,” but here’s what often gets left out:
Most agents work months (sometimes years!) without ever getting paid—showing homes, preparing listings, negotiating deals—only to earn a commission if and when a sale closes. Sometimes, it never does.

And that full commission? Agents don’t keep all of it. A significant portion goes to their brokerage, and many also pay referral fees, team fees, marketing costs, and more.

The takeaway: While every industry has exceptions, most agents work incredibly hard for their earnings.

If you ever have questions about how commissions work, we’re always happy to walk you through it. At the Georgio Reddington Team, transparency is non-negotiable.
