Overview of Rye City

Rye attracts residents for its beautiful beaches and coastline spanning an impressive 14 miles, quaint neighborhoods with tree-lined streets offering walkability to train, schools, and town, and its proximity to Manhattan.   Rye offers a short commute to Grand Central Station, on average only 40 minutes by train and about 50 minutes by car. What To Expect

Although small in size, Rye is rich in history and charm. This community boasts waterfront estates as well as charming beach cottages. There are colonial and Tudor style homes, ranches and split levels. Neighborhoods will often include a mix of brand new construction and historic homes. Rye offers a home for everyone. Rye City also has the lowest effective tax rate in all of Westchester County which allows a buyer’s dollar to go further when purchasing here.

Schools in Rye

The highly ranked Rye City School district is comprised of three elementary schools (Milton, Midland, and Osborn), Rye Middle School, and Rye High School. There are numerous nursery schools within Rye City, including Christ’s Church Nursery School, Rye Presbyterian Nursery School, Resurrection Montessori Nursery School, Rye Nature Center Forest Pre School, and the Early Childhood Center at the Community Synagogue of Rye.  

Amenities in Rye

Rye is rich in amenities and recreational activities. Enjoy visiting such places as the Rye Nature Center, Rye Arts Center, the Rye YMCA, Rye Town Park and Beach, Rye Recreation, Westchester Children’s Museum, Edith Read Wildlife Sanctuary, Rye Golf and Pool, the Marshlands Conservancy, Rye Free Reading Room (local library), Disbrow Park, Playland Ice Rink, and Playland Amusement Park. Rye is also home to many private clubs, including The Apawamis Club (golf club), Westchester Country Club (golf and beach club), Manursing Island Club (beach club). Shenorock Shore Club (beach club), Coveleigh Club (beach club), and American Yacht Club (beach and boating club).  

Hospitals in Rye

Rye is conveniently located near many major hospitals, including Greenwich Hospital, White Plains Hospital, Westchester Medical Center, and Maria Ferrari Children’s Hospital (a level 1 pediatric trauma care hospital).  

Grocery Stores in Rye

There are numerous grocery stores proximate to Rye, including Whole Foods, Stop and Shop, Trader Joe’s, DeCicco & Sons, and Balducci’s. There are also smaller specialty markets such as June and Ho and Rye Country Store. And every Sunday from May to December, the Rye Farmers Market is in full swing in downtown Rye.  

The Rye Lifestyle

Rye offers many amenities that make living here particularly desirable. For example, Rye’s downtown (Purchase Street) offers both fine dining options as well as casual eateries. Other than the Starbucks, you won’t typically find chain restaurants in Rye. Instead, residents enjoy the charm of local eateries and upscale restaurants out of Manhattan. The welcoming community is incredibly close-knit. It is not uncommon to see neighborhoods hosting block parties or children gathering in the street riding bikes or playing basketball. Furthermore, many homes offer walkability to so much that Rye offers. Whether it is the ability to walk to the train, schools, or town, residents take advantage of the opportunity to walk.

When visiting Rye, the Georgio Reddington Team recommends visiting Aurora for lunch or dinner, grabbing a scoop of ice cream at Longford’s for dessert, and grabbing a cocktail at Rye Grill and Bar. It’s also worth a visit to downtown Rye to grab a delicious New York bagel from Hand Rolled Bagels or pastry from Patisserie Salzburg.
